Educator in California Lands in Sugaring World by Draw of Hat

Dear Sweet Readers:  This is the first of a series of profile pieces of the wonderful people I’m so honored to work with every day. When you read these pieces, you’ll understand why I love my job and business so much! Enjoy!.....TamaraSarah Lewis, Esthetician & Body  Sugaring EducatorEve & Adam SpaOrange County Sugaring TrainingWestminster, CA Sarah Lewis is a Tom-Boy turned Salon owner. “I was the boy my Dad never had but always wanted,” she said. A name picked from a hat seemed to change her destiny from a jeans-and-t-shirt wearing BMXer to esthetician. “My name got picked from a hat literally for the Esthetician Program at Goldenwest College,” Lewis said. That was 2003. She said after losing interest in both nursing school and cosmetology, she looked to become an esthetician because of her combined love of beauty and the medical field. However, after graduating and receiving her license, she was only interested in performing facials and zero hair removal. She had allowed a classmate to use her as a guinea pig for a Brazilian wax job and the experience turned her off. However, a job move in 2007 required that she wax. “There weren’t many educators for Brazilians and body waxing, so I taught myself,” she said. She explained that things were rough at first; but, she didn’t give up and soon developed a great technique and moved forward as a Brazilian Waxing teacher. At that point she realized she really loved being an educator. In 2012 a chance encounter introduced her to sugaring. She was hooked instantaneously and set out immediately to become certified. Like her first forage into waxing, it was a difficult skill to master at first and Lewis said she nearly gave up. Regardless, she kept sugaring on her menu of services and soon learned of Tamara’s Professional Body Sugaring line. She did some investigating with pleasant results. “I immediately switched to Tamara’s line because it was very affordable – half of what I was previously paying,” Lewis said. “After receiving my first order and speaking to Tamara, who is the nicest person I’ve encountered in our industry, I knew that I had found my company for all my sugaring needs.” Within six months of using Tamara’s line of products, Lewis said she was interested in teaching sugaring instead of waxing. “I contacted Tamara about the opportunity. My first class validated why I love sugaring and educating: the excitement of my students and, to be honest, my own.” Lewis continues to be a huge part of introducing what she says is an “amazing service that is taking over our industry.” She has been doing demonstrations at all of the top beauty schools in Orange County, bringing the truth about sugaring to teachers, spa owners, and countless potential students.  The best part, she says? “Every student that I educate and certify is transformed into a lifetime friend.” On top of that benefit of being a sugaring educator and supporter, she said that sugaring has quadrupled the revenue of her business. “Eve & Adam's (her business) is 90% sugaring and increasing everyday,” Lewis said. “Everyone should experience the fabulous world of sugaring because it's all natural, never hot or irritating to the skin, quicker, more efficient, easy to remove the residue, and low overhead cost and poised to wipe out Schick and Bic!   “At Eve & Adam, we have made it our mission to make men feel as welcome as women and now they are dumping their razors and clipper trimmers too!  We picked our name for that very reason.” She says that patience and remaining calm is key to being a teacher. “I am also a giver with a huge heart,” she said. “I believe that is part of my wonderful reputation as a business owner and friend. Tamara has the same philosophy and a huge heart; so, it was a natural fit for me to become an educator for her company. Every transaction and interaction with Tamara confirms that her passion for sugaring surpasses the rest.” Despite the fact that Lewis spends her days in the beauty industry, her Tom Boy heart is still inside of her, and she spends her non-salon time white water rafting, hiking, zip lining. “I guess that I haven’t strayed too much from the girl who gave the boys a run for their money doing bike tricks in the 80s.” Like her beauty professional vs. Tom Boy side, she says that there are two sides to customer service, too: the actual service and hospitality. “You can’t have one without the other.”AuthorCasondra BrewsterCreative Word Lab   See More

Salon owners?

Any estys have experience buying/owning the salon they work/rent in? The salon I rent a room from is up for sale and I'm considering buying it, but I have zero experience running a salon or a business even, other than my own little room rental. Comments and tips welcome!See More
